Francesco resumes his role as Artistic Director of the Settimane Musicali d’Ascona in September as the festival marks its 73rd year with two weeks of concerts celebrating Johann Sebastian Bach. He performs in recital on 14 September, playing a programme of Bach works as well as Schubert’s Four Impromptous. He also joins the Basel Chamber Orchestra for a performance of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No.27 on 24 September. There is also the premiere of Bruno Monsaingeon’s film about Francesco’s recording Liszt’s Années de Pèlerinage on 13 September.

The festival opens on 6 September with the Tonhalle Orchestra Zürich performing in Locarno. Krzysztof Urbański conducts a programme of Bach’s Ricercare, Schumann’s Violin Concerto with soloist Daniel Müller-Schott and Brahms’ Second Symphony. Other performers at the festival include Jéremie Rhorer, Renaud Capucon, Ton Koopman, Mahan Esfahani and Arcodi Volados, while visiting orchestras and ensembles include the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale della RAI, Kammerorchester Basel and Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
